The San Diego Tourism Marketing District (TMD) began accepting applications this month to award funding to organizations implementing sales and marketing programs within the City of San Diego.

These programs, including major events, must demonstrate the ability to generate incremental room night stays at assessed hotels in addition to generating a clear Return on Investment (ROI) on TMD dollars.

“The City of San Diego and its residents directly benefit from investing in tourism marketing,” said William L. Evans, SDTMD board chair. “Hotel room night stays lead to increased Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) revenue. These funds build and repair roads, support fire and police services and other essential City services.”

Organizations interested in applying for funding are encouraged to visit the “Contractors and Funding Applications” section of the SDTMD website. It is important to review the requirements when applying for funds as all events must demonstrate incremental growth in hotel room nights and ROI. Application packets must be submitted to the SDTMD office by Friday, December 9, 2016 at 5 p.m.

The SDTMD is a funding conduit of sales and marketing programs and services that support tourism in San Diego. The SDTMD Board of Directors will review each application submitted before the deadline and award funding to the marketing and sales programs likely to generate the most incremental room night sales at assessed properties. Past programs funded by SDTMD include San Diego Beer Week, San Diego Bowl Games and San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.

“We look forward to receiving applications and determining the right mix to fund tourism marketing in the City,” said Evans. “I encourage prospective applicants to review the successful case studies posted in the online annual reports for context and inspiration.”

SDTMD will also announce application workshops in the coming weeks to assist organizations in completing the application process.
