A San Diego tradition since the 1960s, San Diego Bayfair Thunderboats is a three-day festival held in Mission Bay Park with powerboat racing as its centerpiece. Family oriented, Bayfair offers live music, beer gardens, kids’ activities, food booths and a wide range of additional attractions.

Usually attracting more than 100,000 regional and national visitors, the event has seen a dramatic increase in the number of attendees and the number of hotel rooms booked since becoming partners with SDTMD. Since 2015, the event has generated an average return on investment of $28 for every TMD dollar and over $7.7 million in TMD hotel room revenue.

Key Highlights FY19:

  • A display hydroplane made appearances at regional car shows to hype the event.
  • More out-of-area clients used the festival as a platform for corporate hospitality events.
  • The event partnered with Racing Hotels on a drive-and-stay program.
  • Overall attendance at the event was up three percent over the year prior.
